I reached 100 days of photographing this week.

100 days of pushing myself.

100 days of figuring out what and how I’m going to capture an object.

100 days of realizing how fast time moves.

94.366: Where I stand. It was such a pretty day, had to bring out my Plumeria dress.

96.366

96.366:Bread. My dad definitely knows how to make a burger.

97.366

97.366: Precious. Isis literally sleeps on my bed like this all day.

100.366: Pen and Paper. August 2016. The time when our debt will be minuscule and we can look at buying a house!

I love photography.
I’m a sucker for Black and whites.
I love capturing people more than a lot of things right now.
I constantly dream about my someday house and a little studio inside.

But, the hardest thing for me to capture, anyone for that matter- myself.

I have a lot of photographer friends who set out to reclaim their individualism- to capture themselves. I loved their work, but always had an excuse for my own. I didn’t have the right gear, I didn’t have a trigger, I didn’t have a good backdrop, the list went onward. Inside, it was just all me. Like humans, we struggle with something.
For me, I hate the few extra pounds that never seem to fade, the pesky scale that tends to haunt worse than a bad dream, and the jeans that don’t seem to fit right, but I press on.

As a Photographer, we live for capturing precious moments, but hesitate at getting in front of the camera for ourselves when we turn gray, for our families and children to hold onto us.

When I started my 365 project, I never knew it would challenge me at my own self-portraits. I never knew how uncomfortable it was to try to capture myself.

It kinda changed when I heard a photographer by the name of Sue Bryce. I began to watch her videos on posing, and lighting. I fell in love with her, like so many others do. As I began to watch her, and listen to everything she said, I found myself practicing more; the poses, the gracefulness, just wanting to be more like so many I aspire to be.

So, with my date for my 365 Self-portrait, I sucked it up and just went outside. My hair was greasy and my makeup barely existent.

Afterwards and reviewing, I cried to my husband about how terrible I looked.
It’s so disheartening sometimes.

I decided to give myself a chance.
With a little magic, I fell in love.
My husband calls me a hippy with my hair, but I’m a mermaid at heart.

So, remember…

Your husband doesn’t mind your greasy hair, and scarred skin.
Your children don’t mind the extra pounds.

Give them something to hold on to forever- a photograph.

Week 14/52

Hello April!

My, My, I am so happy it is spring time here in Oklahoma. The weather is perfect, flowers are blooming, tornado sirens in the background and your dad is mowing in the midst. (Yes, that really did happen growing up).

I hope you all have a beautiful week, and as I catch up on my weekly posts to share my images with you, I hope you enjoy!

Here are last week’s images.

87.366

87.366: Depth of field. These are my absolute favorite wild flower #CommonGrapeHyacinth

88.366

88.366: Vintage. Paired with my Mother’s tulip tree, this vintage tea pot belong to my great Auntie. She was a lover of all things stylish.

89.366

89.366: High-Key.High key photography uses unnaturally bright lighting to blow out most or all harsh shadows in an image.

90.366

90.366: Wide. This Luna Moth scared me us as we were entering our home this week. It has a wing span up to 4.5 in. That’s nuts!

91.366

91.366: Asymmetrical. Have you ever seen a micro shot of a dandelion?

92.366

92.366: Reward. After nearly losing all of it’s bloom, Mother Nature decided to bless me with a few. Grow little one, you are my favorite.

93.366

93.366: Shallow. I love the country, there is always something to photograph. Love my mum’s redbud trees in full bloom. Just a bit of shallow DOF.

Until we meet again

Week 13 out of the 52 weeks of the year. Man, oh, man has it flew by. This week has gone by so fast, that I’m a little behind. Yikes!

When I started this project, I was so pumped and excited. I wanted to fulfill this uncontrollable desire I have to shoot, to make art, to let the creative in me just well, create. I try my best to get these up, but gosh, it’s hard somedays with life. You know what I mean!

Here is March 21, 2016 – March 26, 2016. Enjoy!

81.366: Healthy. Who doesn’t think Cadbury and Sees candies are healthy?81.366

82.366: Night Lights. I love how the light hits the plant and cement block. Perfectly balanced.82.366

83.366: Muse. My Muse, my lover, my friend. This guy believes I can do anything and pushes me to reach my goals.83.366

84.366:Suspended. You’d never guess this is a hoist on a basketball goal!84.366

85.366: In Motion. Oh Yoshi, how you love you tennis balls. A tricky shot indeed. 85.366

A Day in the Life

A Day in the life with the Chew Family.

I put out a model call a few weeks back, but hadn’t heard too much. I was starting to get a little stir crazy with not shooting besides things around my home. I reached out to a friend of mine who suggested her family who lived in the country. They had a farm, and before I even called, I was excited.

Now, with Oklahoma weather, it is always hard to plan sessions. We scheduled for a Sunday afternoon since it was “Chore Day.”  On our way out there and  with my friend as a guide, it became stormy. Oh, I was praying hard for the sun to give me a little something to work with for a few hours. My friend’s family owns about 100+ acres in Chandler, Oklahoma, just to see all the green grass from the previous week’s worth of rain couldn’t have made for a better scene. With my rain boots on provided from my friend, we were ready for our adventure.

We started out with feeding the cows, Gabe was pretty excited to show me how they do it down on the farm.

And the cows loved him too. They could hardly wait to chow down on their dinner, and even caused Gabe to drop his bucket. He just laughed and with a little help was back to getting more feed.

chew_6chew_9

If I had ever seen a 4 year old that loved to help and show how it’s done, it was this guy. In between watering the cattle and sifting their water, he managed to pick a few flowers for his mama.

chew_4chew_2

This little one loved his mama, we could barely break him away, but he was the best baby I had ever met. You didn’t even hear a peep out of him the entire time.

Next, the chickens!

Gabe was pretty excited for me to meet Solomon, the rooster. Although Solomon was a little noisy with trying to protect his hens, he was happy to get fed. The hens even let Gabe chase them for a little bit.

Fresh eggs. I hadn’t seen so many eggs, 30 to be exact. Those hens stay busy.

Onward on our adventure. The sun was peeking through and matched with big puffy clouds, set a dream scene. They had a field of Lamb’s ear and grass, so naturally, we had to capture it.

We had a brief pause in our session, but then he was back to his happy go-lucky self.chew_20Mama was even kind enough to show me her bag garden. It’s super low-key. You plant your flowers or vegetables in the soil bags and when seedlings break through, BAM! you’re ready to plant. Cuts down on time and headache.

chew_304

To the field we went, and with a quilt they laid, until we went opossum hunting. Who knew that they dug pretty deep holes? Afterwards, giggles, and lots of them. From playing under the blanket, to pulling dad’s hair, these boys had a blast.chew_277chew_278 copychew_279

You cannot Photoshop these skies, it was absolutely gorgeous. And with man’s best friend by his side, Gabe was ready to conquer the world. chew_206chew_395

Oh baby Eli, your lashes were so long, and stood still long enough to catch a glimpse of them.chew_328

Oh how this Eli loved to play in the grass.

Black and white are my favorite thing to capture, I had to edit a few. These boys were so well-mannered.chew_97After we were “done.” I had promised Gabe that he could splash around in the mud. Oklahoma doesn’t have just plain ‘ol mud, we have red clay. Nonetheless, it made for epic puddles.chew_128

chew_146chew_147chew_148

Thank you so much for allowing me into your family and capturing a glimpse of your life. I’m sure I’ll be seeing you again!

Xoxo,

Sarah
